THE SARAH WEARNE MCDONAGH QUARTET - FEAT - THE 14 PIECE TRURO COLLEGE JAZZ BAND
Tom Quirke - Piano, Sarah Wearne McDonagh - Sax, Ross Williams - Bass and Damian Rodd - Drums
Starting with flute, age 10, Sarah quickly progressed to the tenor saxophone in order to join the school jazz band and Cornwall Youth Jazz Orchestra. After graduating from the Guildhall School of Music in London, she stayed in the capital for thirteen years, playing with several renowned bands, including the London Jazz Orchestra, Michael Garrick Jazz Band and the Guildhall Jazz Band under Scott Stroman, and leading players and jazz luminaries Kenny Wheeler, Stan Sultzman, Randy Brecker, Bobby Shew and Michel Legrand.
Since returning to Cornwall Sarah has played with numerous local and visiting artists and continues playing in the UK and internationally with a prominent all female saxophone quartet.
For the this concert Sarah brings a set of high energy swing, funk and fusion for your ears! the 1st set will be performed by the quartet.
For the second set Sarah will be accompanying the Truro College Jazz Band to showcase some of Cornwalls local talent in Jazz.
Until further notice, we are sticking with last year’s model of myself running the local jazz night called The Big Kettle. The Big Kettle runs every Tuesday with monthly St. Ives Jazz Club special nights featuring artists from around the world and UK Jazz scene.
Hoping to see you all soon and please support live music.
